The series has a writing style similar to American comic books, in which several short story-arcs of a few episodes are shaping a larger pattern. The first four episodes were termed as quot;ordinary people discovering extraordinary abilities. An event occurred at the end of the fourth chapter began the next arc quot;Save the cheerleader, save the worldquot; (Save the cheerleader, save the world), with a clear reference to the character of Claire Bennet, a cheerleader high school Texas, with rapid regeneration abilities, and the apocalyptic vision of New York painted by another character, the artist Isaac Mendez.

As the cast slowly discovers his abilities and the existence of others like them, their paths are crossing and begin to realize that we need to prevent the catastrophe. The premise is that the characters have an important role in saving humanity.

It all starts when Peter Petrelli has visions and dreams in flying. This is related to his brother Nathan Petrelli. When I asked Peter about what dreams mean, feel that it's all fantasy and that he has more important things to worry about. Their main concern is to be top points in the next election for congressman.

Peter is a nurse and cares for terminally ill father of Simone Deveaux, a girl in charge of an art gallery that during the early chapters, is the bride of Isaac Mendez, a painter who has the ability to shape the future on a canvas. He feels he can only enter the trance which makes paint such future events under the influence of drugs (which later prove unnecessary) and, at home, Simone thinks that, being drugged, Issac only events associated with their paintings but soon changed his mind.

At the same time in Japan, a simple office worker, Hiro Nakamura discovers that he can break the space-time continuum, teleporting to New York City in the future, just before it exploded a nuclear bomb destroys the city. During the first season, the central plot of the series is gradually focusing on preventing such a bomb explodes in the heart of the city of New York, a fact which in turn was predicted by Isaac Mendez on one of his paintings .
